Thought behind “Not Alone”

I began writing this song as a promise to my loved ones that I’d walk through the tough stuff with them, as I held to the promise that God would walk with me.

At the time, the context was my sister’s adoption journey. It took on new meaning as we mourned the death of my mother's new husband, later as I helped in my grandfather's final days, and recently as we stayed more isolated than most through the worst of the pandemic.

This song has changed as much as our lives have. But with each version, the promise remains:

I can't promise you an easy road, but I can promise you, you’re not alone.
