A Yankee in Texas without a Band

In 2012, this yankee moved to Texas with her new husband.  That was quite the adventure, which inspired a fun song.1462843_624223156346_2036737270_nI wasn't planning to do much music there except for joining a worship team at church.  But I kept writing music... only now, being band-less, it was on my acoustic guitar.  I just wrote because I wanted to... because I had things on my heart that I wanted to say, and I expressed best through music.  I'd email the songs to my family, just to share them with people who cared.I thought about starting a youtube channel to share my new songs with old Enough Said fans, friends, and family.  So that's what I did.  It was around that time that I learned about CMI Academy.  It was an opportunity to mentored by professional musicians who were doing what I'd enjoy doing someday.  They gave an opportunity to get the mentorship for free to whoever got the most youtube views.  I was blown away by the support I received from friends, family, and former Enough Said fans.  I ended up getting just under the most views.  So I talked to my husband about it, and we decided it would be worth the investment.  It was basically like taking a college class, and it was time that I invested in my music as much as I invested in my other/backup plans.  Looking back, I'm so glad I did it.  I learned a ton about songwriting, sharing, publicity, and the business-side of being able to make music without ending up in the poor house (which we pretty much already were... so that wasn't an option! haha)1149017_162786197244889_637181113_nI started to share my music through social media and email platforms, keeping people up-to-date with my projects.  I wanted to record, and almost had the opportunity to do so with Jimmy Needham's brother, but we ended up moving before I got the chance.  I did however, get to do some home recordings with my husband, and some youtube videos like I planned.  I also took some time to share my music at a local singer-songwriter night to gain valuable feedback.  This was all I could do in the time I had between working more than full time as a social worker and keeping up with the rest of life.  So, when we moved to South Carolina, I knew it was my time to start fresh and do music at full force.
